Animal Use
Cattle browse lightly during winter but seldom during the growing season. The fruits are eaten by a variety of birds.
Natural History
Found in sandy soils in pineywoods, mixed forests, thickets, and coastal scrub-forests of Louisiana and east Texas. It is a common species along streams in the pineywoods of north Louisiana and east and south-central Texas.
Habitat
Sandy soils, in pinelands, open mixed forests, thickets, clearings, fields, coastal scrub forests, dry sandy rocky woods, along wooded streams.
