Natural History

A native forb that grows in low, moist areas of Louisiana and central and east Texas. It ranges from Pennsylvania south to Florida and west Texas. It is edible raw in salads or may be cooked like spinach (Medsger 1966).

Habitat

Moist, low sandy or clayey soils in woods and prairies, meadows, and roadsides.
