Field Characters

Leaf bases purplish black. Base of plant usually deeply set in substrate and difficult to extract from soil. Stems obtusely triangular. Plants usually consist of 10 to 20 basally clumped stems, but the number of stems per plant may range from several to 100.

Natural History

Found in the gulf coast states of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas. An aggressive weed, C. entrerianus has dispersed and become common in the southeastern US. reports this species to be common in east Texas and south Louisiana and apparently highly correlated with rice culture.
