Field Characters

Haspan flatsedge is a tufted perennial sedge, 2-7 dm tall with soft, weak, sharply triangular stems. Its inflorescence is composed of widely spaced spear-point shaped spikelets subtended by small, inconspicuous bracts. Leaves are reduced to bladeless sheaths.

Natural History

Sheathed flatsedge is rarely common and is found in moist places in Louisiana and east and southeast Texas. It is salt tolerant is may be found in brackish marsh. It is widely distributed in warm regions of the world (Correll and Johnston 1979).

Habitat

Ditches, marshes, swamps, shallow water, and low fields.
