Field Characters
Easily distinguished from other Hypericums by its scale-like leaves. The Hypericums have punctate or gland-dotted leaves that are opaque if held up to the light.
Cultural Information
Seed germination is improved by cold/moist stratification (Steffen 1997).
Natural History
Found in dry gravelly or sun-baked sandy soils of central and north Louisiana and central and east Texas. It is the first species of Hypericum to bloom in coastal prairie.
