Galactia volubilis occurs in coastal prairie. Other species such as G. regularis and G. erecta are pinewoods species that are similar (Grelen and Hughes 1984). Leaflets entire, narrowly to widely oblong, oblong-ovate, or elliptic, 10 - 60 mm long.
Seeds average approximately 43,000/lb.
Desirable to cattle as forage. Considered a choice food for bobwhite quail (Grelen and Hughes 1984).
Found frequent in woodlands and prairies throughout Louisiana, except in the Mississippi flood plain, and the eastern half of Texas south and west to Palo Pinto, Burnet, and Cameron counties (Correll and Johnston 1979).
Open woods, thickets, and clearings.
