The only grass with an open airy inflorescence found in flower during the late winter or early spring. Soft grass. Branches bearing spikes slender and rough.
The seeds of most Agrostis species benefit from cold/moist stratification (Steffen 1997). Seeds average approximately 6,200,000/lb.
Poor livestock and forage values.
Moist sandy soil, roadsides, open places.
