Field Characters

Obligate in mud. Teeth only near tip of leaf. Upright with square stems. Look alikes: Phyla, Mecardonia acuminata- purple flower, hairs on stem, Gratiola- toothed along entire leaf.

Habitat

In mud and water of ditches, lagoons, ponds and steams, and in moist soils of depressions.
