Cultural Information

Seeds of a number of members of the Gentianaceae require light and cold/moist stratification to germinate (Steffen 1997).

Natural History

Grows in a wide range of soil types and soil moistures in fields, prairies, and cedar-oak flats throughout Louisiana and in coastal and east Texas. It is a common flowering plant in Louisiana prairie remnants and is one of the few annuals common in good quality prairie.

Moist or dry soil in fields, prairies, cedar-oak flats, along streams, woodland borders, roadsides.
