Field Characters
Flowers differ from those of H. autumnale and H. drummondii in that the disc flowers are dark red instead of greenish-yellow. May be confused with Gaillardia aestivalis which does not have winged stems.
Habitat
Alluvial pastures, wet meadows, ditches, and open moist sites.
