Field Characters

An annual or biennial with hairy stems usually branched at the base. Leaves are ovate to oblong with rounded teeth along the margins. Pink to lavender flowers are born in small clusters both terminally and in the leaf axils on 1-2 mm long pedicels. 2 lips on flower. Only mint with crenate edges on leaf (blunt or rounded teeth). Petiole not over 1/4 as long as the blades. Leaf blade acute apically.

Natural History

Grows in mostly shaded, rocky or gravelly soils in woods, ravines in prairies, and stream banks, throughout most of Louisiana and east-central and south Texas.
