Green base, 10-12 inches tall. Stems thick (2 mm wide).

Cultural Information

No treatment is required for germination (Steffen 1997). Seeds average approximately 2,800,000/lb.

Natural History

Found locally abundant in moist sandy soils over much of North America. Correll and Johnston (1979) report that in Texas var. obtusa in the east and southeast part of the state grades into var. detonsa in north central Texas and the Edwards Plateau.
