Natural History

Grows in low, sandy woods, grasslands, prairies, lawns and disturbed soil throughout Louisiana and most of Texas. It flowers intermittently throughout the year but has its biggest bloom in early spring (one of the first flowers of the year in coastal prairie. It ranges from Florida to Texas and north to Virginia.

Habitat

Prairies and open woods, low sandy woods, moist soils, grasslands, disturbed soils, occasionally pastures, meadows, and ditches.
