Field Characters
Easily distinguished from other species of Solidago by its elliptic-oblong leaves. When sterile it may be confused with Eupatorium rotundifolium which has sparsely hairy stems and opposite leaves while Solidago rugosa has hairy stems and alternate leaves. Leaves with sunken veins. Stems fuzzy.
Habitat
Low woods, meadows, old fields, pine barrens, and bogs.
