Field Characters

Giant foxtail grows to 2.5 m with a large terminal spike to 3 dm long. Leaf blades 0.6 dm long, rough to touch.

Animal Use

The seeds are eaten by ducks and other birds, especially red-winged blackbirds.

Habitat

Moist ditches, bayous, brackish and freshwater marshes.
