Field Characters

Sometimes mistaken for Urtica sp. (stinging nettles), but lacks stinging trichomes. Sepals green, no petals.

Natural History

A wet prairie species found in bogs, marshes, swamps, seepage areas, and along rivers and streams in sun or shade. Occurs in coastal prairie from Louisiana to east Texas.

Habitat

Low ground, bogs, swamp forests, marshes, and alluvial woods or coves.
