Germination of the seeds of members of the genus Senecio is benefited by cold/moist stratification (Steffen 1997).

Natural History
Senecio glabellus was called "pissenlit" by the Acadians of south Louisiana, although this is the old French name for dandelion (Holmes 1990). Common in Louisiana, this species is somewhat rare in east Texas, occurring mainly on sandy soils.
Habitat
Damp, open woods and swampy grasslands.
