Natural History

Grows in thin soil over rocks, along roadsides, in open thickets and flat woods, salt marshes and dunes along the coast and dry open slopes throughout Louisiana and the eastern third of Texas. Ranges from New York south to Florida and west to Texas. Correll and Johnston (1979) report it to be introduced farther west.
