Cultural Information

Optimum germination occurs at 40 degrees F (5 C) (Lauer 1953). The seeds of most species of Juncus may be planted fresh or after cold/moist stratification, and require light for germination (Steffen 1997).

Natural History

Found in moist soil nearly throughout Louisiana and Texas (except extreme Panhandle and Rio Grand Plains). This species has spread to temperate regions nearly throughout the world (Correll and Johnston 1979).

Habitat

Wet roadsides, low fields and ditches, lake and stream marshes, sand bars, brackish habitats.
