Field Characters

A prostrate or twining vine, with spearhead shaped leaves and no prickles. The red fruit have seeds that are crescent-shaped or snail-shaped. Soft limp stems with soft hairs; no thorns. Leaf shiny, sometimes lobed. Petiole attached at leaf base. Mostly 3 main veins in leaves. Look alikes: moon seed, smilax, Melothria pendula and Menispermum canadense.
