Field Characters
Herbaceous plant to about 1.5 to 2 ft tall; Leaves alternate, with thorns in leaf axils; blue flowers about the diameter of a nickel in summer and fall.
Habitat
Typically in sunny, disturbed wetlands such as ditches and pond shorelines. Probably the only Hydrolea species in large river floodplains, with the other Hydrolea species occurring on older landscapes.
