Field Characters

Hydrocotyle umbellatua has simple umbles while H. bonariensis has flowers verticillate on its branches. Also has leaves 5 cm wide or wider, entire, and attached to the petiole in the center of the leaf. Leaf 2" or more across.

Natural History

Grows in wet places in ditches, marshes and coastal and blackland prairies. Ranges from North Carolina, south to southern South America. Also reported from South Africa (Correll and Johnston 1979).

Habitat

Low or moist areas.
