Cultural Information

Seeds germinate best at alternating temperatures of 66-73 degrees F (19-26 C). Germination is stimulated by light (Kolk 1962). Seed was shown to retain high viability after 4 years of dry storage (Chessin 1959, Kolk 1962). Seeds average approximately 630,000 seeds/lb.

Natural History

Grows in low meadows, open woodlands, pastures, and along roadsides throughout Louisiana and the eastern part of Texas. It is now widely naturalized throughout the Northern Hemisphere.
